The St. James Court “UNfair”

It is called the “UNfair”. It is an exhibition which has been up and running for the better part of 15 years. It is the response to the St. James Court Art fair who wouldn’t allow for an acceptable amount of local artists to have the opportunity to be “juried” for the Art Fair.

It was founded by local Louisville artists and run by local artists in response to a view of an emerging corporate attitude of the St. James Court Art Fair. The “UNfair” was founded 15 years ago by local artists Paul Harshaw and Greg Edwards.

The St. James Court Art Fair was founded October 12, 1957 which makes the fair 57 years running.

The UNfair is held each year the weekend of the St. James Court Art Fair in the “backyard” of the Magnolia Bar and Grill.

The art is exhibited by 20-30 local artists and artisans. There is an eclectic mix of different art mediums presented.

There are paintings, drawings, sculptures, photography, and glass blowing. There are also screen printings and t-shirts and a large diverse representation of jewelry.
The UNfair is always well received by the public and the artists enjoy the interaction between the artists and the people.

The artists are willing and interested in talking with the people about their art, the process, and amount of time it took to create.

The UNfair is a mirror into the local Louisville culture.  You can gauge the goings on in Louisville by observing the art which is created and taking in the entire scene.

You can also find a bargain, a must have for your collection.  In the process, you can help unload some art for an artist so they can earn some bones.

St.JamesUnfair2014 019The UNfair should be a highlight for your Autumn interests.  It is a separate niche from the St. James Court Art Fair.  You can feel the difference in attitude the minute you visit the “backyard.”
